Getting a stronger grasp on the language

Hello all.

I come to you humbly as a Portuguese student, and one who recently started the first year of a degree in Classic Studies. I studied Latin before, obviously, but I often fear the background I was given was not enough. I have learnt most if not all of the general aspects of the language, but at the same time feel I lack concrete contact with the language.

And so I seek your help; because I would rather catch up my problems than have them catch up with me late in the course. I ask you if there is any book, website, or resource of any kind which could grant that "kind of practical contact", probably through leading exercises of translation and retroversion (if possibly with resolutions). I don't know if there is any such book, or if possibly a "Not-Begginer Latin Learning" book would do the job.

Alternatively, if there is perhaps some other method for consolidating the language, I would be very willing to hear it too.

Apologies if this is an odd question, or if it takes too much of your time. I thank you beforehand for your answers.

I would recommend that you download N&H prose composition from Textkit together with the answer key - its free! It provides brief explanations of grammar and then gives you generally some 30 sentences to practice on.

Other than that: read. Read as much as you can.

embora seja bem acertado o conselho de kasper, especificamente acerca do que pediste em [1], tanto quanto a praticares composição quanto a praticares a leitura, a ler esta linha [2] da tua postagem sinto-me como que compelido, ainda que não requisitado, a falar da série língua latina de hans ørberg. esta série de livros apresenta o latim inteiramente pelo latim, assim o vocabulário, como o aparato sintáticogramatical. isto é feito mediante referências a construções já introdizidas, aquilo mediante figuras desenhadas, sinônimos ou definições em latim, nada muito diferente do que se veria num dicionário monolíngüe.

ps: não te assustes com a quantidade de produtos, porquanto em verdade tãosomente dois livros são necessários, "familia romana" e "roma aeterna" entitulados, aquele é introdutório, assim pode muito bem ser ignorado porquanto já estudaste a língua, o outro é para aperfeiçoamento: este sim te será útil, porquanto nele introduzem-se copiosos extratos dos grandes autores, assim prosaicos, como poéticos: cícero, lívio, ovídio e horácio, entre outros.

Thank you, kembreg. I only fear that the course you linked me is aimed at begginer-level learning... While I don't claim I am advanced by any means, I have mastered the basics already, thus it wouldn't be of much use to me.

infelizmente não posso dizer per meu próprio testemunho, porquanto tenho somente a versão impressa, ainda assim na versão mais recente, que carece dos índices, estes índices além do texto e dos exercícios de argüição do conteúdo do texto com as suas respostas parecem compor o conteúdo do cd. mas é melhor perguntares em aberto, há aqui no foro quem tenha o disco e portanto pode responder com precisão

Decidi não me atrever com o CDROM, e aventurar-me-ei simplesmente com o livro, o Roma Aeterna. Assim que o tiver e testar direi mais.

o primeiro capítulo está inteiramente disponível aqui http://www.culturaclasica.com/lingualatina/muestra.htm (no link palatium et capitolium) dificilmente é exemplo do latim empregado nos demais capítulos, mas é certamente exemplo do método empregado ao longo do livro

se já tiveres visto isso, apenas me ignore.
