filio se ostendit

Post by pmda »

In Pensum A of LLPSI, Cap XXXVII Orberg scripsit: 'Venus filio se ostendit et ei imperavit, ut patri et uxori et filio auxilium.

Venus held herself out to the son and ordered him to help his father, son and wife???

I'm confused by 'filio se ostendit'... why reflexive...why dative?

You reveal yourself to someone.
Tu te alicui ostendis.
I'm writing in Latin hoping for correction, and not because I'm confident in how I express myself. Latinè scribo ut ab omnibus corrigar, non quod confidenter me exprimam.
