No sooner ashore at Antioch, than Ben-Hur finds dangers and romance both awaiting him.

Simul ac Antiocheam ingressus, Benhur invenit Martem Amoremque expectantes eum.

Look out! That chariot will run you down!

Cavete, ne currus irruat in vos!

Dog of Roman! Carest thou so little for the lives of others?

Despuende Romane, nonne parvi pendes vitam alienam?

Κατάπτυστε Ῥωμαῖε, πῶς οὐχ ὁλιγωρεῖς τοῦ ἀλλοτρίου βίου;

My deepest gratitude, brave stranger. I am Balthasar from the kingdom of Egypt, and this is my daughter Iras.

Gratias maximas ago tibi, o fortis advena. Baltassar sum ex terra Ægypti. Hæc autem est filia mea Iras.

Strange fortune, father! One noble youth would have killed us but for the courage of another.

Mira sors, pater! Quod unus generosus juvenis nos interfecisset, nisi alter fortis adesset.

By the gods you’re are a princess of beauty! May I be pardoned for my rash act?

Per deos, quam nobilis et pulchra es! Veniane dignus sum stultitiæ meæ?

Πρὸς τῶν θεῶν, ὡς γενναῖα καὶ καλὴ εἶ. Ἆρα συγγνωστός εἰμι τῆς ἀβουλίας μου;

That was the great Messala whom thou didst curse so roundly.

Ille est Messala magnus, quem tu aperte exsecratus es.

Then, gracious lady, strange as it seems, in this same moment I have met the man I hate and a woman that could win my heart.

Propterea, o venusta mulier, etsi res mira videtur, nunc vero occurri et viro quem odi et mulierem quæ amore vincat me.

I noticed that the link to the Greek version of the comic actually leads to the Latin version.

Thanks for this translation by the way I really enjoy them.
