An English Basler Gesamtkommentar

Post by Ahab » Mon Jan 05, 2015 2:12 am

Good news for those who don’t read German. It looks like at least part of the Basler Gesamtkommentar (BK) of Homer's Iliad is going to be published in English this year.
Here is a link to the pre-order page at Amazon of the English translation of the Prolegomena:

http://www.amazon.com/Prolegomena-Fritz ... na+de+jong

And of the Book 3 commentary:
http://www.amazon.com/Homer-S-Iliad-Boo ... .+Book+III

I assume the price will come down on the Book 3 commentary sometime before it is actually published.
Why, he's at worst your poet who sings how Greeks
That never were, in Troy which never was,
Did this or the other impossible great thing!

Good news. I suppose it's no coincidence they're starting with book 3, which has no recent English coverage? And at $15000, the price is not bad either...
