οἰ μὲν ἰππήων στ?ότον οἰ δὲ πέσδων
οἰ δὲ νάων φαῖσ' ?πὶ γᾶν μέλαιναν
ἔμμεναι κάλλιστον· ἔγω δὲ κῆν ὄττω τις ἔ?αται.
Some (say) the army of cavalries, others (say) (the army) of the infantry
(still) others say (that) of the young, upon the black earth
to be the most beautiful: but I (say) that (army) of whichever he(or she whom the poetess loves?) should love, (to be the most beautiful).
This is what I can make out of this poem quoted in the lesson 9 of "Ancient Greek Alive". But I cannot be sure for there seems to be so many abridgements.
