Herodotus 1.47.3

Post by markcmueller »

I'm trying to figure out how to scan the oracle in Hdt 1.47.3.

I'm not sure that what I've done in correct, but I'm left with "ἅμ" being a long which doesn't seem justified.

- υ υ | - - | - - | - υ υ | - υ υ | - -
ἑψομέν ης ἐν χαλκῷ ἅμ᾽ ἀρνεί οισι κρέ εσσιν,

Have I scanned the line incorrectly?

The third and fourth feet: _ uu | _ _ . The omega (ωι) is shortened because another vowel follows (correption).
