what is a verb of rest?

Post by Fausta »

Salvete,
Wheelock's text suggests 'sub' + ablative for verbs of rest. What are examples of these? I'm guessing verbs of motion would be walking, running, etc...

Have a look at Allen & Greenough, 220.c:

Here's the Lewis & Short Dictionary entry for sub:

Examples of "verbs of rest" - lie, (ille sub mensā iacet), sit (illa sub castaneā sedet)
