Re: Is letter r pronounced the same as the Spanish r?

Thanks! So to confirm, is the r always trilled? I know in Spanish the r can be tapped or trilled. But with Italian I read somewhere that the r is always a voiced alveolar trill, with a short trill for the single r (not being at the start of a word) and a longer trill for the double r -- is this corr...

Is there an online resource where one can search up the Latin pronuncation of words ie a website similar to howjsay?

As the title says, I'm looking for a website similar to howjsay.com but for the Latin language - is such a resource in existence?

Google translate audio

I'm a beginner who has yet to start studying Latin. What is the opinion of this forum on Google translate's pronunciation of Latin? I'm not asking about its translation of Latin (which I know is inaccurate) but its pronunciation. I won't be relying on google as my main source of audio (having subscr...

Re: Anki Deck (Request) Thread

I have been similarly dissatisfied with the lack of a single, good Anki deck to memorize *everything* in Wheelock's (7th Edition). Nesrad wrote:Latin has been pronounced myriad ways through the ages. For centuries many great scholars used the English pronunciation, for example. Pronounce it as you like, just be shure to make yourself understood.

Pronouncing the letter R

I'm an absolute beginner who's considering learning Latin. Will it matter if I pronounce the letter R the way English speakers do? I'm unable to trill my R and this has put me off learning languages like Spanish where rolling the R is important to the meaning of the word. Thank you for your time

Re: Correcting Adler's Key to his "Practical Gramma

Users of Adler, I had difficulty posting this, so sorry if this is duplicative. I wanted to let you know that I've transcribed all of Adler into an Anki deck. It has three fields for each card: 1-the Latin sentence--from the sentences in the lessons and exercises, and the sentences given in the gra...
