Re: Ancient Greek Online Classes

Please also see: CiceroAntonius and TheDidaskalon on youtube. They go over Athenaze Books I and starting book II. He uses the restored pronunciation and pronounces the iota subscribed as in Ancient times. I believe he will be running an active course next summer 2018 in Turkey at two ancient sites f...

Re: Materials for reading Homer in Greek

Also use Geoffrey Steadman's Books with Greek Text and Facing Vocabulary. There is a answer key to the "a Reading Course in Homeric Greek" as well. From Amazon, 2007 edition. It has all the answers and translations for books I and II for the 2nd revised editions. A great way to test your knowledge a...

Re: Materials for reading Homer in Greek

I am using the second revised edition of " A reading Course in Homeric Greek part I and II." Not the third edition. Note: Do not use third edition, it is terrible. Use the original 2nd revised. A great and easy way to approach Homer. Also, Clyde Pharr and a new course by the Teaching company, Greek ...

Re: Alcaeus 335 and 338 - two fragments on wine for Aoidoi.o

Take a look at Horace Ode 9 from book I of the Odes (Ode 1.9). He uses Alcaeus fr. 338 as a guide to write his famous Ode, Mt. Soracte. In case you didn't know.

Re: My answers to Schoder & Horrigan course, Lesson 95

There is an answer key but it is off a few sections. It is on Amazon.com. You just have to matchup the correct sections to get the answers. For instance lesson 39 starts with section 279, online answer key, not 276 as the answer key states on Amazon. I think someone maybe me will just buy the Amazon...

Re: Online Answer Key to A READING COURSE IN HOMERIC GREEK,

The answer key on Amazon.com appears to be off a few sections. Is that true? Is there a new updated one besides the one online?

The online one has great quotes about Classical learning and literature however, but ends at lesson 95.

Intensive iota

I came across the intensive iota on words like τουτὶ or τουτονὶ. First what does this mean and second what are the rules for this iota usage. I can't seem to find it anywhere. Reading Greek JACT course has it in the text but does not explain it. example: τί δὲ τουτὶ τὸ πρᾶγμα; MEANS: "What is THIS m...

Re: Not happy about the iota subscript

Best practice is to pronounce it. I always have and always will. I like the comparison TO WRITING IN LARGE CAPITAL LETTERS AND THEN THEYAREPUTTOGETHERSOTHATYOUDONTKNOWONEWORDFROMTHEOTHER. But that is how it was. SO pronounce it, write it. For example: ἐν τῲ δένδρῳ . ΕΝΤΩΙΔΕΝΔΡΩΙ. ΕΝ ΤΩΙ ΔΕΝΔΡΩΙ. NOT...

You can also try An Introduction to Ancient Greek: A literary Approach. I have used a variety of combinations of texts, including Alpha to Omega, the book mentioned above, JACT Reading Ancient Greek with Audio CDs, and lastly, Athenaze I and II. I like Athenaze because you read continuous greek, and...
