Re: The Iliad, new version

I had a catalogue from a reputable book company not too long ago that offered a version of the Iliad, and in the little summary it included something like "Hear the story of the infamous Trojan Horse. Hmm, I checked the last line of my Loeb edition of the Iliad and it is about the funeral of Hector.

Iliad 5.81: ἔξεσε

Does anyone know wich verb ἔξεσε is a form of? I can't find it in Cunliffe's "A lexicon of the Homeric dialect" and Perseus is so painfully slow I don't even consider using it.

From context I can deduct it means cutting off.

Pharr dissyllabic enclitic and accenting

Pharr states the following in paragraph 556: ?στί(ν) is written with an accent on the first syllable (ἔστι) when : 1) It comes at the beginning of a sentence or of a verse of poetry : 2) It denotes possibility or existence. 3) It is preceded by ο?κ , εἰ, καί, ὡς, μή, ἀλλ', or τοῦτ'. Possibly did not exist. There are signs of destruction on the site, dating back to around 1200, but no traces of a Mycenaean fort were found yet.
