Re: Puer Zingiberi Panis - Araneae Parvae Araneum Primum

For what it's worth, I really enjoy the book. I like having pictures, and lots of repetition of words and phrases so it's easy to read. I wish there were more beginner's books out there that were similar. I used the first story in the book just last week with my ten year old. He is halfway through L...

Puer Zingiberi Panis - Araneae Parvae Araneum Primum

In the book Puer Zingiberi Panis, the second story has the line "Musca araneam magnam in araneum vidit." I think this means "The fly sees the large spider on the web.". Shouldn't 'araneum' be in the ablative? The previous line is 'Et oscillare incipit' The large spider is swinging on the web, would ...

Re: Today's Latin joke

While I agree that some "'aggressive secularists" can be annoying (especially the "Brights", implying that anyone who isn't an atheist is dim), I also find it highly hypocritical that the leader of the Catholic Church would criticize others for trying to spread their beliefs. After all, the Church ...

Re: Plans to create a Perseus-based Mnemosyne deck

I recently discovered Anki flash card program through this board, and would recommend it for consideration. You can sync your decks to their server so you can practice on multiple computers and keep your data sync'd.

Re: FREE BOOK Mille Fabulae et Una: 1001 Aesop's Fables in Latin

Ms. Gibbs has a fine book available on Amazon called "Aesop's Fables in Latin: Ancient Wit and Wisdom from the Animal Kingdom". I own a copy, and it has plenty of grammar notes and vocab. It's a bit advanced for me at the moment, but I hope to grow into it.

Lingua Latina? Asterix comics in latin (much cheaper to order from Amazon.co.uk)? Ritchie's Fabulae Faciles? Puer Zingiberi Panis?

Re: Using LL 1 with previous knowledge

I have found the college companion by Neumann to be invaluable in giving additional instruction and information. That being said, it seems to me that I am still missing some important grammatical concepts - especially around the use of pronouns - that I might get from a more traditional course. I do...

Re: Linqua Latina, Capitulum X

I know this is probably quite simple, but Linqua Latina and the college companian don't really go into it - What clues do you see that let you know it should be 'That' as opposed to 'It'? How do you know that it should be 'That beast is not feral', rather than 'It is not a feral beast', is it the w...

Linqua Latina, Capitulum X

Salvete, A quick question on Linqua Latina, Capitulum X, around line 9 is the sentence "Canis amicus hominis est, ea bestia fera non est." The pronoun in the second clause is feminine - but it seems it must be referring back to 'Canis', which I believe is masculine based on the adjective 'amicus'. T...

Hello

Hi, I'm a new member. I have been working my way through Familia Romana for about 9 months (and only on chapter XIII). I have a 4th grader who has just started Latina Christina II, and a 2nd grader and Kindergartner who I have started on the vocabulary of Prima Latina. My 4th grader and kindergartne...

Familia Romana, Cap. XII - are they using the right pronoun

Salvete,

In Familia Romana, Cap. XII, around line 25 is this sentence
Aemilius avunculus est, id est frater matris.

Doesn't the id refer back to Aemilius avunculus, so shouldn't it be the masculine 'is' instead of the neuter 'id'?
