x=0 is also a solution. You can't divide by sin(x) if sin(x) = 0, which happens when x=0.

I would really like to see a dictionary of words in modern languages which are derivatives of Latin words. A much more ambitious genealogy of words of all languages would make an excellent cooperative net project in my opinion.

The most Latin I've read has been Genesis, chapter 24, which weighs in at 7552 characters, or two printed pages in my edition. The most classical Latin I've consumed in one day would be one of Pliny's letters to Trajan. It took me several hours, and I didn't understand all of it, even with the copio...

Hearing Ecce Puer at an early age ingrained e-chay as the correct pronunction... :roll: I'll have to thank one of my English teachers for that because I never heard any Latin in church.

I am trying to read A History of the English Language by Baugh & Cable when I have time. It states that there was in fact a extensive intercourse between the Romans and the Germanic tribes, whose languages eventually became the core of old English, and several hundred words of Latin origin are found...

My parent's house does have a library. It contains some chairs, a rug, and a bookcase. There is a small flight of stairs which leads to an upper shelf for books. The ceiling is perhaps 20ft high, and there is a tall window on the left side. Our cats use it more than any of us though ;p

I read most of LOTR, but I didn't bother trying to understand Tolkien's languages. I get the feeling that I missed the whole point. Perhaps I will look at Quenya sometime. <br /><br />I also think the movies suck, but that's another topic.

The number system. The algorithm for writing down the cardinals wasn't clear to me. Then there are ordinals, distributives, adverbs, and even more which don't don't fall in those categories.
