I live in a highly earthquake-prone area, just north of Yellowstone, and there is a spiderweb of fault lines all around southwest montana. We have earthquakes all of the time, we just don't feel them. This one was big though, and we are told to keep watch for more.

We had an earthquake two days ago!

it was 5.6 on the Richter Scale and the epicenter was 23 miles NNE of Dillon at 10:08 last night. It was freaky but way cool, at first I thought my dog was trying to drag the couch across the room or something but she was laying in the kitchen! I have never felt anything like it in my life! it was s...

The name of the state itself makes sense, too. The word Montana must surely be a derivation of mons, -tis... or perhaps it's just the feminine of montanus with an implied natio e.g.: natio montana - the moutainous state Everybody here says it's derived from the spanish word, Montan~a. I guess it co...

I've driven through Montana, and understand why it's called Big Sky! Yeah, my mom and I were discussing this the other day, I think it's because of the altitude we are at (around 5,000 ft) and all of the mountains. Also, my dad said that when he and my mom lived in Germany, the sky seemed smaller a...

I took Latin because I had no idea what it was and the other languages didn't appeal to me. I memorized some charts by chanting them while taking a bath, haha. I should have volunteered in class more, sorry Magister.

How can I fix this so it works? I meant metri causa as in making a vowel long even though it wasn't naturally or didn't have two consonants after it. I didn't want to go for elegiac couplets, just regular hexameter: -uu/-uu/-uu/-uu/-uu/-x and --/--/--/--/--/-x no double breaks anywhere. I'm going of...

This is a poem I started. It scans in dactylic hexameter and its about my two birds. I'm still working on it but here it is so far. Please tell me what you think. I'm not sure but I'm excited now, because I've actually read that for my Latin class, haha!

Maybe it's a side note? Like in Livy's Scipio Africanus, he sort of goes off to the side and talks about authors disagreeing over the number of men in the army and calvary.

I think knowing Latin helps you understand your own language better and it teaches you actually how to learn a language. Also, studying the Roman culture teaches us more about our own, because ours evolved from theirs. Besides that it's an all around beautiful language and it's interesting to learn ...

For the most part, Latin fear sounds are apparently the same as ours. They use oh! and ah! both negatively and positively, but they also have the rather amusing atat! which is often lengthened to amazing lengths. Some examples for the last mentioned: atatatae, attatatatae, atatte, atattate, attatai...
