Re: Attested Latin words with three vowels in a row?

Seeking a Latin dictionary for three or more consecutive voveles "eyuioa" gives me 418 words . Supposing words starting with capital letters are proper names, sound "u" is a semivowel, and counting diphthongs "æ/œ" for one sound, the list can be reduced to 35 words: accieo ææa aiens aio anteeo cieo ...

Re: School level textbook in Latin (not language)

Thank you all for valuable ideas. It would be wonderful to get Jesuits' textbooks, but to the date I have found only this sentence from the book "The Jesuits As Educators" (1885) : Except in the case of Natural Sciences, the lectures, repetitions and text-books are all in the Latin language. There i...

New dicitonary: “Novus linguae et eruditionis Romanae thesaurus” (Gesner, 1749).
Even that it is not fully transcribed, available part is often enough to get the meaning of the word.

Re: quo v. qua as "where" words

Inasmuch as Russian is already used in this topic, I would add explanation in Spanish taken from "El latin enseñado como lengua viva" (Hernandez, 1916). Particulary, lessons XXXVII (declensions) and LVI (adverbs of place): quo - a donde , ¿what is the final destination? answer: in/ad + ACC qua - por...

It seems to work, although you might want to give more detailed instruction if you want more people to test it. Thank you for the test. Do you use my other dictionaries, such as Dumesnil or Shumway ? Don't you think they will profit from being converted into this format? Given a dictionary pdf file...

Popmæ dictionary, testers needed

I am working on the Latin-Latin dictionary "De differentiis verborum" (Popma, 1865) and want to try a new format, so need feedback from users. This version for GoldenDict contains scanned pages (no transcript yet), so looking for a keyword, user takes a preview of the corresponding page. Placing mou...

Wiktionary call it apocope (ἀποκοπή), so may be it is a variative form of the word?

Re: Koller's Orbis Pictus Latinus

Cannot find a preview of the Koller's book, is it very different from other illustrated Latin dictionaries, such as The illustrated companion to the Latin dictionary and Greek lexicon (Rich, 1849) or is more like Orbis sensualium pictus by Comenius?

Does anyone know how saltus differs from silva in usage?
From Döderlein's Hand-book of Latin Synonymes:
Silva (ὕλη) denotes a wood, in a general sense, merely with reference to the timber, like ὕλη; whereas saltus (ἄλσος) as a wild place, or wood in the midst of mountains, like νάπη

I recall they had two polytonic Greek keyboards, one built on MS Keyboard Layout Creator (MSKLC - this is the framework Mastronarde used for GreekKeys), one on their own framework (Keyman). To your knowledge, are you using the latter? I use Keyman on Linux, and it provides several keyboards for Anc...

I love the way Ørberg made very solid story: first, you read a chapter in which boys misbehave in the classroom and argue with teacher; then you switch to the exercises in which boys are punished to write additional exercises, but they continue tricking and cheating. So, line between reading and pra...
