ταῦτα δὲ ἀγαθά ἐστι δι᾽.... in an old addition, δὲ is changed into δὴ, on the ground that ταῦτα must refer to the preceding γυμνάσια etc, Why? i do not get the reason.

It might be confusing that this verb means both to lie and to be mistaken, any other synonyms? In Bailly, however, ψεύδομαι means mentir , to lie only, to be mistaken is ψεύδω. The English Greek Lexicon by Yonge gives ψεύδομαι as t be mistaken and to lie.

ὅ φασιν ὑπὸ τῶν ἡδονῶν ἡττᾶσθαι καὶ οὐ πράττειν διὰ ταῦτα τὰ βέλτιστα, ἐπεὶ γιγνώσκειν γε αὐτά. I think there is no need to suppose the subject τινα with those infinitives.

still I am inclined to think that τὸ δε ἄλλο must be taken adverbially: with respect to the rest, in all other respects, this δε is copulative, not adverstative. So the best translation would be: so I said: and is each of them different also in all other respects?

ὡς παντὶ προσῆκον ταύτης γε μετέχειν τῆς ἀρετῆς ἢ μὴ εἶναι πόλεις. it appears that grammatically μὴ εἶναι πόλεις depends on προσῆκον . or is there another explanation?

I have read in one of those grammars that in a number of verbs their middle differs from their active form only in the degree of intensity whatever that might mean, like for instance, in δωρέω δωρέομαι.
