Is this a good Greek New Testament?
I have an RSV Interlinear Greek-English New Testament from 1958. My grandfather used it while in seminary, but should I get a modern Greek New Testament for my own studies?

It is best not to have an english gloss staring you in face while your trying to read a Greek word. You don't need to spend a lot of money on a German Greek NT, The Robinson-Pierpont GNT Byzantine Textform 2005 is very reasonable. The apparatus includes every instance where it disagrees with NA26/27 UBS3/4. Eventually if you decide to stick with it you will probably want a critical text but no need to rush into that.
You can also pick up a used UBS3 or UBS4 reasonable. I prefer UBS3 for the font, which is more readable. Robinson-Pierpont GNT Byzantine Textform is a large hard back with a very readable font. NA27 has an ok font but the symbols of the textual apparatus introduce a lot of confusion into the text which is a liability for folks who are not used to it.
SBL Greek New Testament (SBLGNT) is another option, I have it in electronic form only. It free for download as a pdf or sword doc. Not sure about the commercial software. This edition is edited by Michael W. Holmes and has an apparatus, not as extensive as NA27 or UBS.

Yes but Amazon may not be the best source. I bought my two copies directly from Maurice Robinson, who was an old acquaintance from b-greek and textual criticism forums. I suspect he doesn't take direct orders anymore but don't really know for sure.Benson Shays wrote:Is this the first one you recommend? http://www.amazon.com/New-Testament-Ori ... =8-2-fkmr0

Thanks. One last question: I've heard that John is the best place to start reading because the Greek is relatively simple. Any thoughts?C. S.
