Interest in a Latin group?

Post by Rindu »

Hi,
I don't know which forum would be best to ask or offer this, but here goes:
Is there any interest in a Latin group? How would I advertise it?

I would like to lead a group though Wheelock's or some other introductory text, and teach/tutor/mentor people so that they can learn Latin. I'd like it to be a textkit group, but I don't know to find people who may be interested.

I have taught Latin for two years, attended graduate school for classical languages and was mentored in the art of Latin pedagogy by Someone Famous, so I can assure you that I'd be good for this. I just want to volunteer and help out. So, is anyone interested? I have a good idea of how I would like to structure it, and I'm very comfortable teaching out of Wheelocks (as I have done so before) but would also like to use one of the free textbooks available here, to keep everything cheap.

I can also lead reading groups. I have a particular interest right now actually in reading Caesar.

I'm starting Wheelock tomorrow, but I'm going to move quickly! Let me know if you are still around.

I'd like to join one. I have the old third edition of Wheelock and some supplementary readers. I'm considering the Reading Latin and Lingua Latina approaches (but I'm probably not ready to burn too deep a whole in my pocket just yet). I've gone over Wheelock and some other introductory materials (Teach Yourself Beginning Latin is a favorite) and can read isolated sentences (such as Wheelock's "sententiae antiquae" and passages quoted in Latin grammars), but haven't graduated to reading unedited texts. I'm a bit more advanced in Greek and Sanskrit, but not greatly, I'm afraid.

Oh, surely I'll love to join such a group! I have ordered my Wheelock's Latin, so I'm prepared to start learning Latin through a group soon!

If needed, I have Wheelock's 7th edition on Kindle and can now loan it out (for a 2 week period). You can then read it off your computer.

If you join the group and need to borrow the text until you can get one yourself please let me know. I'm not sure if it can only be loaned to one person at a time or not so contact me quick!
~~~I will apologize now for being a Yank. Please do not let me bad English grammar and spelling deter you from talking to me :D ~~~
I've just ordered the seventh edition. I have the sixth revised edition.
I'd love to join in on Skype. I've started up with a friend. We've agreed to work at a comfortable pace and help each other along. We're working on chapter 1 this week. (I've worked ahead to chapter 9, but I'm trying to go slowly and process everything.)
So, do we think there will be a group?
My Skype username is jaihare, of course.
Has a group been decided on? I would like to join. Maybe reading Latin together or reciting Sententiae Antiquae togther? It seems the responses to this group are ranging over 2 years, so I hope someone is listening. Anyone in the DC (USA) area interested in reading Latin together?
I'm in Israel. I now have the seventh edition of the text. I've opened a place for submitting translations to the Sententiae Antīquae and Trānslātiōnēs. If you're interested, PM me or send me a quick e-mail: jaihare[at]gmail[dot]com.
