Post by KramerKram »

Anyone learning Latin from these 3 books?

More importantly, anyone seen an answer key to these set of books?

Hi,

I'm 'learning from' every book I get my hands on (including Wilding's). Just dip into one or other of them now and again. But to the point: I found the Answer Keys to Books 2 and 3 of the Wilding set somewhere on the Internet about a year ago. Suppose more copies will surface eventually.

This kind of thing:

Book2, Ex. 5:

1. Beautiful country houses were being built in Britain.
2. Unless our allies hurry, we shall not be freed.
3. Great power was wont to be entrusted to the consuls.
4. If we resist, Caledonia will not be conquered.
5. Sometimes the Romans were helped by the natives of Britain.

Key:

1. Villae pulchrae in Britannia aedificabantur.
2. Nisi socii nostri properaverint, non liberabimur.
3. Magnum imperium consulibus mandari solebat.
4. Si restiterimus, Caledonia non superabitur. (Sean Connery?)
5. Interdum Romani ab incolis Britanniae iuvabantur.

I find one can learn a lot from comparing answers with questions, no matter how surrealistic they are.

Cheers,
Int

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread.

Interaxus, I have been scouring the internet for answer keys for this book set, but to no avail.
Do you still have copies of the key? Does anyone know where to find these keys?

I'd be happy to buy them, but I can't find those either!

KramerKram:

I'm in the country right now and my Wilding keys are in town. Which book are you most interested in (1, 2 or 3)?

Anyway, you can probably borrow them from a library:

These are in England. You can probably borrow them via your local library using the InterLibrary Loan system even if you don't live in England (though you may have to pay a fee in that case).

Cheers,
Int

I would be most interested in volume 1 right now; I am planning on trying to use the texts for teaching purposes.

You're right about the library. I'm going to check into that. Hopefully, they won't refuse!

Cheers!

hi, i've used 'latin course for schools, part 1'. only done upto chapter 8 though. to my knowledge they are no keys for these books.
i scan all my handwriting, you can have my notes if it helps.
personally i reckon 'elementary latin exercises' by hillard and botting, a better start.
