short translation

Post by Bedell »

HI, folks,

May I please, ask your help with a short translation for a monumental inscription?

The sentence is -

"Erected by Father Kevan Driver A.D. 2000."

Many thanks to any who can help.

Salve Bedelle
A Patre Coemgeno Driver aedificatum a.d. 2000
A Patre Kevan Driver aedificatum a.d. 2000
[hoc monumentum]

Libenter, Bedelle. Potius, ut dicis, serò quam nunquám.

I gave a literal translation. Better would be this:
Verbatìm verti. Hoc autem melius:

PATER COEMGENUS [seu Kevan] DRIVER AEDIFICAVIT AD MM [seu anno domini bis millesimo]

Alternatives (minus the "seu", of course) between square brackets.
Inter uncos quadratos sunt substitutiones (minùs "seu" certé).

Thanks again, Adrianus! I think I'll go with the second. And I like the use of Roman numerals, too. :D
