Online Schools for Classical Studies

Post by Sirius B7 »

Can anyone suggest any online schools for Classical Studies? I am mainly interested in language study. I have credits from Kent State University that will transfer...It's all sort of complicated. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Best Regards,
Dean

I found another online Great Books program, this one regionally accredited: Faulkner University, Honors Program offers B.Litt., M.Litt., and possibly D.Litt.

While they aren't 'online,' you can study classics from a distance at several of the South African universities. They and their programs are structured like UK universities. You can read classics at any level through the University of South Africa, which specialises in distance learning, and can study as a postgraduate with perhaps a summer residency at the Universities of Cape Town or Stellenbosch. The latter two are really excellent universities.

I should also add that last time I checked, the Classical Studies program at London was taught in translation only. However, if you want to sit the Greek exams for their Divinity programs at Heythrop College, you can go that route for one of the languages. Their programs are not exactly 'taught,' but you receive study guides and texts and then take one massive exam when you are ready. Each program is taught via one of London's constituent colleges - Divinity is through Heythrop, and Classical Studies is through Royal Holloway. I've never been a student at U of L, but I looked into them closely and check in to see what's new from time to time. If you're okay with their self-study and exam methodology (or can arrange a tutor), they offer some really neat opportunities.
