Pl. Ap. 33d4-6

Post by NateD26 »

Is μεμνῆσθαι here absolute or should I supply the object? How is it even translated as absolute?
Nate.

It has an object, it's "τι κακὸν ἐπεπόνθεσαν αὐτῶν οἱ οἰκεῖοι". If they suffered some evil by me remember that evil that they suffered by me (and punish that evil they suffered by me), :)

Thanks, IreneY. I think though that τιμωρεῖσθαι is absolute here in the medial with the sense of avenge for yourselves/your own kins, seek your vengeance.

But I think that there's a strong suggestion of "seek vengeance for that", whether it's grammatically implied or not.
