Exercitia latina ch 10 (orberg)

Post by pmda »

I've just written these three sentences in answer to questions in the Exercitia Latina from Orberg's LLPSI and would like anyone qualified to cast an eye over it.

12. Marcus perterritus ad villam currit et magna voce clamat Quintum mortuum esse.
(Marcus, frightened, runs to the house and in a loud voice cries out that Quintus is dead)

13. Pater videt Marcum ad se currere. In hortum cum filio suo currit.
(Father sees Marcus running towards him. He runs to the garden with his son.)

14. Aemilia Quintum a Iulio in villam portari et in lecto poni videt.
(Aemilia sees Quintus carried by Iulius into the house and put onto the bed).

Does this Latin look OK....?

This was the only problem I could find:

I don't think "ad sē" is correct here because it would be taken as Marcus running towards himself. I would say that, generally, if "himself/herself/itself" isn't possible in English, "sē" isn't possible in Latin. Hence, you should use "ad eum".

Furrykef. This is much appreciated and I'm very grateful. With regard to 'ad se' here's what Orberg had in the book: 'Pater filium perterritum ad se accurrere videt....'

By that, he means "Not Smythe". ;)

Looks pretty good, though.
