How do you guys feel about Plautus?

Postby Screwdog » Fri May 07, 2010 6:23 pm

Salvete omnes,

I just finished my first year of graduate school (yay!), the last semester of which we spent reading Roman comedy--particularly the Amphitruo and the Menaechmi of Plautus.

I loved it and I loved his Latin, but I haven't seen any sort of comment/discussion on the comic playwright on these boards. Have any of you read Plautus or Terence? I thought reading those plays was a hoot, so I wanted to know if you all have any experience with Roman comedy and what you guys thought about it.

verbum,

Some time ago I read Plautus's Amphitruo and Seneca's Hercules Furens. I wanted an introduction to Roman drama and I thoroughly enjoyed both plays. No Terence yet, I'm still working my way through Horace's Satirae.
