Prepositions

I have noticed that there were times when the Ancient writers would use prepositions after verbs. But what I find to be interesting is that often times this was a repetition.

For example:

αποχωρειτε απ εμου
αποστητε απ εμου

Does this practice offer special significance to the writing and if so what would that significance be?

Wait, I think preps take a slightly different meaning when compounded into a verb. so Χωρεω may have the sense of leaving whereas αποχωρεω may be "stronger" or more empathic, so like: I retreat, setforth etc so surely a prep is still viable for further elucidation?
