I will keep a running list of errors that have been pointed out, as I will not be able to fix them as often anymore. Please point out any other errors that you notice, as they will be helpful to others and spare my dignity! Also, make sure you have downloaded the most recent version of the answer key. I will put a version on the Errata so you will know when they have been incorporated into the key.

last update: 3-23-05

Errata 1.1
Chapter 10 Sententia Antiqua #7 should read:
Live mindful of death; time hurries away.

Any one just starting with Wheelock, like the first 3 chap?

Post by christophershelt »

I have just started with Wheelock after a long absence. I am reviewing the first 6 chapters or so, but after that I'll need--or, rather, would like to find--other fledgling Latinists who would like to share thoughts about the progress being made. I have the 5th and 6th editions of Wheelock, the Comprehensive Guide to Wheelock's Latin, the Wheelock Workbook (3rd edit. rev.) and a little book called English Grammar for Students of Latin. If there is anyone out there, or, hopefully, more than one, who might want to exchange commentary about this early experience with Wheelock please leave a note here or contact me directly at christophershelt@netscape.com. Thank you.

Hi Spencer,

I just visited your site and snagged a copy of all the files, even though I am currently self-studying Greek. Who knows, I may decide to take on Latin someday. Consider this post my comment on your website. Kudos!

One question, though. Which edition of Wheelock and the Workbook are the keys for?

Spencer,

BIG Thx. for posting this link and for your site. Although I'm working through D'Ooge I do have a copy of Wheelock on the shelf too.
I appreciate your taking the time to put this together.

BTW,

I did notice after I posted my thanks to Spence two things:
1. Lex was right, Chap. 32 Answers are blank and Adobe gives an error message at that point.
2. That Spence has apparently not fixed or even responded in two months to Lex's reply AFAIK.

I looked around my PC at some old files and I do have another set of Wheelock's Answers 6th Ed.
I copied them from the website of one, "Bard" a couple years ago. They include Chap. 32 and I
could post them in this thread if any wanted me to do so and the Moderators don't mind. I can't
give the original url as it's lost to me and I sure can't guarantee the answers as I am nowhere near
that level. :D

Let me know,

I wrote to Spencer about this, and he said that his original source file had a bug that he could not fix.

Why don't you send your version of chapter 32 to Spencer? He could host it on his site.

Feel free to post them in a separate thread and I will sticky them until the answer key is fixed.

So the publishers did not include the Loci Antiqui in the answer key? That is simply insane--there is no key/translation of this anywhere!

Re: Benissimus' Wheelock's Answers: How Do I Access Links?

Post by persequor »

Benissimus,

Would you please tell me where I can access the discussion and explanations shown as links in your answer key?

Also, I was wondering if the key will work with the 5th edition, which is what I have.

Gratias tibi ago,

Persequor :?:

P.S. If you could get with the Textkit newsletter folks and ask them to start my subscription, I would appreciate it. I signed up several weeks ago and haven't received any issues.

How come the answer key has been removed? Is it due to the wishes of the author or publisher, or is there some other reason?

I withdrew my son from school and am homeschooling him for the rest of the year. We were planning to finish the year with Latin for Americans because he had been using it in school. Unfortunately, I can't get a hold of a teacher's edition to check his work. I thought I'd switch over to Wheelock's, in part bcs it is highly recommended. I have been able to get a hold of the answers to the workbook but how might I get a teacher's edition for the main textbook. As a homeschool mom, teacher's editions are essential. Can anyone help?

Hi There,

to obtain a key, please contact the publisher. The key that was here on Textkit has been permanently removed at the request of the author and publisher.
thanks,

Yes, Mr. LaFleur, the publisher, and the Latin teaching community in general have all asked that it be removed.
thanks,

Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the answer key for the 5th edition of Wheelocks (and the corresponding workbook)? I wrote to the publisher and requested a copy, but they replied "Sorry but we don’t have an answer key to the 5th edition available—in an electronic or hard copy. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause." They graciously sent me the answer key for the 3rd edition workbook, but I'm still hanging dry with the editions I have. I'm a graduate student studying Latin independently to fulfill language requirements for my Master's program.
Thanks.
