Small question -- what does "in apodeses" mean?
I have the VocEd Attic Greek flash cards and they define ἀλλά (a conjuction) as but. But they also say that it means, "in apodeses", still, at least.
words are such a poor representation of reality. please listen to what I mean, not what I say.

Could this be a typo of apodoses?

Ya, thanks Lex, it must be. Maybe a variant. Now I see that LSJ says ἀλλά in one form is: "2. in the apodosis[my emphasis] of hypothetical sentences, still, at least, “εἴπερ γάρ τε . . ἀλλά τε”."Lex wrote:Could this be a typo of apodoses?

Apodoses is the plural of apodosis.

Yes, of course. I was going to mention that but it seemed obvious.Lex wrote:Apodoses is the plural of apodosis.

The question however was about apodeses not apodoses.grdSavant wrote:Yes, of course. I was going to mention that but it seemed obvious.Lex wrote:Apodoses is the plural of apodosis.

So, do you have an alternative explanation?Bert wrote:The question however was about apodeses not apodoses.grdSavant wrote:Yes, of course. I was going to mention that but it seemed obvious.Lex wrote:Apodoses is the plural of apodosis.

No, I agree it must be a typo. I thought you were answering the question by saying it is the plural of apodosis. Now I see it was YOU who suggested it might be a typo. Sorry.Lex wrote:
