For some time now I have wanted to find some webbish software that would allow joint editing of things like the commentaries I produce for Aoidoi.org, sort of a cross between that site and a Wiki. I finally gave up looking for such a tool, and decided I'd have to write it myself. So, I've written an extension to MediaWiki (the software that runs Wikipedia), which has given me an opportunity to learn PHP (much the same way a cracked tooth gave me an opportunity for a root canal...).
I am not yet ready to release this extension into the wild. Eventually there will be a separate web site, etc., etc. But I'd love some comments on the current stage, both from readers and people who might want to produce commentaries themselves.
I've got a few pages marked up on my development system — not much, but enough for me to play around with ideas and test the code — Sappho PMG 976, Lucian's 13th Dialog of the Dead, and the manual might be useful. You will not be able to edit anything, but if someone is burning to stress-test it, I could be convinced to create a temporary account. You'll still be able to view the extra mark-up I created for it.
If there are things people find obviously missing or obviously ugly, I'd love to hear about it.
