Merry Christmas!

Postby timeodanaos » Wed Dec 24, 2008 10:53 pm

It's just turning midnight Central European Time, so I suppose this is it.

I hope everyone has a merry time, be their celebration Christian or Pagan or be it neither. :)

¡Feliz Navidad a todos! :D

:D
Lisa: Relax?! I can't relax! Nor can I yield, relent, or... Only two synonyms? Oh my God! I'm losing my perspicacity! Aaaaa!

Homer: Well it's always in the last place you look.

Merry Christmas! And now here we go with the Greek:

Verus enim amor semper tempore tristi elucescit magis. (Philipp Melanchthon: Decl. de studiis Linguæ Græcæ)
Quin age, si quid habes (P. Vergilii Maronis Ecloga III:52)

'...and they feared with great fear!' - the best part of the Bible.

Especially in Dutch, where "vrees" means "fear" and "frees" means "milling cutter". Gives a completely new meaning to "zij vreesden met grote frezen" or "zij freesden met grote vreze"... ;-).

Merry Christmas, sodales!
--Cicero, De Senectute
