1) Veteres Romani domi parci, in amicos fideles fuerant; templa deorum pietate, domos gloria ornaverant.
Roman veterans were sparefull at home, loyal to friends; gods temples with religion, home with glory ornated.

2) What is the translation of verb "didicimus"?

1) I don´t see any problem in your translation.
2) We learnt or we have learned/learnt. Didicimus is past perfect (1st. person plural) of "discere" (to learn).
