Now that these posts are perhaps more etymologically precise ("related to"), I am still wondering what their overall purpose is here on TextKit.

This is the "Learning Greek" forum and the purpose of these posts is to help people learn more easily Greek by relating english words to Greek cognates.

In my experience, letting the student discover cognates on his or her own has a greater didactic value, but to each his own.
