Imperfect and verbs with prepositions in Attic

Postby ascii » Fri Jul 04, 2008 4:14 pm

I would be really pleased if you could tell me what are the rules to follow when a preposition meets the ε of the imperfect's temporal augment, as to what letter drop, when does it contract and so on?

Thanks a lot

I was wondering what the augment and reduplication is of words like απο-κατα-βαινω, which is made from two prepositions and a verb. Does it become απεκατεβην or αποκατεβην or απεκαταβην or somethings else? Thanks a lot!

While there are a few, rare verbs where the preposition became so attached to the verb stem that it is augmented, in general only the verb stem can get the augment. So, ἀποκατέβην.
