Scansion of the Iliad

Post by zavack »

I am atempting to learn Homeric Greek by first learning how to recite the Iliad, line by line, and by parsing every single form, as well as getting its meaning. I want to do this for at least the first, hopefully the first four books. The problem for me is that, while I am able to come up with a scansion that fits, eventually, every line, I would truly like to know when I am going wrong. E.g., Book One, line 11 - Dactyl, spondee, spondee, dactyl, spondee, spondee. By the way, I am using the Greek text in Murray's Loeb edition. If there is some kind soul willing to help, I will happily tap out the above metrical description for every line in the book if necessary. You will, if nothing else, have my undying gratitude.
