Are you reading Homeric Greek? Whether you are a total beginner or an advanced Homerist, here you can meet kindred spirits. Besides Homer, use this board for all things early Greek poetry.

Help in Knowing in Iliad 1:70

Post by majystr »

I'm having problems conjugating the pluperfect of ᾔδεα (ᾔδη), to know. I'm particularly interested in the 1st person plural form.

Can anyone out there help?

My apologies if this has been posted before.

No need to apologize. :)

You must have copied and pasted some Greek font. It sure does not show up very good on my screen, but I can see enough of it to know what you mean.
Here they are: ᾔδεα, ᾔδης, ᾔδη, ἴστον, ἴστην, ἴδμεν, ἴστε, ἴσαν
There are a few other forms for the 2nd and 3rd sg as well.

This post has information on that. viewtopic.php?t=111

If you have SPIonic installed you are all set.
If you don't, you can download it for free.
If you don't have it, you can still use the Spionic tags. We will be able to read the Greek but you won't.
