ἤδη ἑταῖρον ἔχεις ἀλλ’ ἥδυ γελᾷς παρά θ’ ἧσαι·
νῦν δὲ δίδως χάριτας τὰς ἐμὲ δεῖ μὴ ἔχειν;

And how does twinkie scan? Jaffa cake?i recently wrote a little 6 line Grk. elegiac on the (prestated) topic of 'junk food'.

How about:
ἤδη ἑταῖρον ἔχεις ἀλλ’ ἡδυλογεῖς παρά θ’ ἧσαι· νῦν δὲ δίδως χάριτας τὰς ἐμὲ δεῖ μὴ ἔχειν;

A bridge is a place in the line where a word break is forbidden. Hermann's bridge says I cannot have a break in the fourth foot like so: - u | u. In my case, ἥδυ | γελᾷς breaks the rule.Kasper wrote:What's Hermann's bridge anyway
The rule isn't absolute, but for a Greek poet to break it is quite rare.

Thanks Wll! (I'll have to try to translate your poem soon!)
“Cum ego verbo utar,” Humpty Dumpty dixit voce contempta, “indicat illud quod optem – nec plus nec minus.”
“Est tamen rogatio” dixit Alice, “an efficere verba tot res indicare possis.”
“Rogatio est, “Humpty Dumpty responsit, “quae fiat magister – id cunctum est.”
