Greek Texts in Unicode?
Greetings, all!

This is a wonderful site. Congrats and thanks and all that.

I was wondering if anyone knows a site from which we can download complete unicode classical Greek texts. I've seen places that will display a section at a time, and there are places like this from which one can get scanned images, and there are tons of places to get translations. But I'd really like some pure Greek texts. I'd settle for encoded ASCII stuff and I'll just write some code to convert, but that's my second choice.

Any ideas?

Lew
Hi Lew,

Welcome to Textkit! I hope you don't mind; I moved your post to the Learning Greek forum where you'll probably get a better response.

The words of the text are in Unicode. The text is based on Clyde Pharr's "Homeric Greek".

In my experience, www.perseus.tufts.edu, though not perfect, is still the best site for this kind of thing. For some texts, e.g., Iliad, you can change the text 'chunk' size to an entire book. This allows you to see, say, Book I of the Iliad in its entirety, rather than 20 or so lines at a time. But you can't do this for all texts and there's no true download capability.

You might try this link. It's got a few interesting things:

http://directory.google.com/Top/Science ... /Texts/

You might also try "The Chicago Homer" at http://www.library.northwestern.edu/homer/
but, again, no true download capability.

Finally, I have a useful set of home-grown unicode/betacode
conversion tools. If you need stuff converted, just let me know.

Cordially,

Paul

Re:Greek Texts in Unicode?
There are some people making texts available in Unicode. If you check out the aoidoi.org links page, I have several links to texts on other sites, and I note which encoding scheme they use. Bibliotheca Augustana is very good.

http://www.aoidoi.org/links.php
