Interesting... but the key-mapping seems a bit unnatural.

Then you should try this:
http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/tools/msklc.mspx

to create your own "natural" keyboard.

So, Microsoft has an alternative to Keyman. No doubt Bill Gates wants to put them out of business like he did Netscape. Also, the Microsoft product requires .NET Framework, which Uncle Bill wants everyone to use, but I refuse to be assimilated, so I'll stick with Keyman.

I use the keyboard layout by Manuel Lopez, which is essentially entering betacode -- the same thing I do when writing Greek in these messages. Easy, natural, and non-Microsoft.

I set up my system for polytonic and find it hard to work with.

I also installed cardo98 from fonts for scholars http://scholarsfonts.net .

it has lots of fonts associated with it but again I am having trouble with it.

in either circumflex over vowels or diphthongs are hard to locate and I also have trouble useing the key assignments.

Because of that I don't know if I am comfortable customizing my keyboard.

does any one have suggestions about MS' polytonic use or the other font I down loaded?

Is there an easy way to convert text that has been typed as beta code in a regular Latin font into unicode polytonic Greek?

Hi,

Well, you can use my "Ancient Greek Text Manager" program. But there are also a few web-based converters around. I don't have URLs with me right now, but I will try to dig them up later.

In re this thread's content: I am pretty sure that Bill Gates has never even heard of Keyman. More to the point, that he would be interested in acquiring tavultesoft's business revenue is, umm...unlikely.

That said, I have never used Microsoft's approach. I am quite content with Keyman and heartily recommend it. Timotheus, if you are struggling with the Microsoft approach, I would urge you download a copy of Keyman.

Cordially,

Paul

On my Mac I have UniGreek Mac, works very nicely, although for typing I use the keyboard layout Sophokeys (I type betacode, it comes out Polytonic). But UniGreek Mac is a good one for converting large amounts of betacode text into Polytonic Greek.

There is a Windows version, but I haven't tried that one.

Freeware too!

Ditch Microshaft. Do what Paul and I do, use Keyman. Use Cardo, Coode2000, Titus Cyberbit, Palatino Linotype, Arial Unicode MS, or any other Unicode Greek font you want -- the important thing is how you enter characters with the keyboard. If you like typing Betacode (which is very intuitive), use Manuel Lopez's keyboard layout which you can get with Keyman at http://members.aol.com/AtticGreek/.
