I thought these were rather interesting:
The second is:
Anyone have any ideas?

Where did I find these?
Glad you asked! These two quotations on alternate beginnings for the Illiad came from the web. They were in a site about the oral reading of the Illiad. I really didn't need to hear them reading the verse as I can do that fairly well myself with practice. But the alternate beginnings were interesting. Also the first one is from Apelliconis and the second from Aristarchus. I have heard of Aristarchus but not Apelliconis. Don't know anything about them either.
Once I find the site again I will post the URL
Thanks!

Alternate Beginnings for the Illiad Again
It is very very possible that if there was a Homer or at least someone who collected parts of the Illiad and the Oddysey and pieced them together as a whole work that there may be other beginnings that have been lost. From what I make of these I don't think they are as good as what we have
