Word Game in Ancient Greek or What the World Needs Now

Post by Paul »

Hi All,

I've been thinking about it for some time now and have come to the firm conclusion that the world needs...yes, you guessed it, a word game in ancient greek.

If you can get past my goofy clues, I hope it will be a pleasant distraction.

You can find it at http://www.greekgeek.org. In the left hand, table of contents frame, click on 'The Puzzle'. This will show you the current puzzle. There is also a link in the TOC for a "how to solve" it page that explains how to work the puzzles. I recommend that you read this before attempting the current puzzle. Puzzle files are PDFs.

I hope to do about 2 per month for now. I will of course post solutions. Please PM or e-mailme with answers and questions/comments.

I hope you enjoy it.

Cordially,

Paul

P.S. - am also posting this to the 'outside links of interest' board

Yo Chad,

Ummm...no comment. Wink, wink. :D

PS: it's midnight on the east coast of US and I was hoping no one would have even attempted it by now because I am unhappy with one of my clues. I am changing it right now. But it won't affect your solution.

Hi,

Well, they're not supposed to make immediate sense. That particular clue is very much generational. Someone my age will know it quickly.

The younger set, however, could get close to the answer almost as quickly by googling.

Take care,

-pb

EDIT: how long did it take you Chad?

That clue was the only one I could figure out. And I'm 16.

But I had to search through the first 10 of the Iliad finding exactly how to spell it.

Nice work Titus!

How long did it take to do the whole puzzle?

I am trying to get a sense for an appropriate level of difficulty.

Thanks.
