Simul e castris mota sunt signa eorum

Postby pmda » Thu Jul 24, 2014 7:49 pm

Inde subito exorti Romani in latus hostium impetum faciunt. Simul e castris mota sunt signa eorum qui in praesidio relicti erant.

Signa : Ut vexillaris portarenter? milites?

Orberg id explicat: signa movere = e castris progredi

Inde subito exorti Romani in latus hostium impetum faciunt. Simul e castris mota sunt signa eorum qui in praesidio relicti erant.

Orberg (Livy?) has ..e castris mota sunt signa

- the signs were moved out of the camp ?!

Orberg explains this by saying it means 'they moved...'

What does signa mean here...?

I thought it might refer to standards or flags....

Yes, the standards were moved out of the camp, with the soldiers themselves implicitly following.
