nomina earum ?

Post by pmda »

Itaque cum populum in curias triginta divideret, nomina earum curiis imposuit.

Accordingly, to divide the population into thirty curia, he placed their names onto the curia...?

All of my attempted translations have a circular feel. What noun is 'earum' standing in for…. whose names? does it mean the pre-existing names of nobles etc. amongst the population… ?

To answer (slightly) my own question it would seem that 'earum' is feminine and so must refer to the Curia...

I think earum refers to the Sabine women--Romulus was especially pleased with them (your previous post) and so named the 30 curiae in their honor.
