Question about a translation, please.

Post by polyglotbyron6 »

Hi, all.

I was having a discussion with a friend, with whom I am learning Ancient Greek. We were talking about how the words βιβλιον προτον often appear in the title of various ancient works for 'first book'. I know that in the past, a 'book' often corresponded to what we would now call a 'chapter'. My friend and I were wondering: if you wrote, say, a Greek textbook, and you wanted to be fancy and put 'first book' on the cover (as in first book of series), could you use ' βιβλιον προτον' for this?

Thanks a lot!
