ΠΙΝΑΞ Ο ΠΕΜΠΤΟΣ ΚΑΙ ΕΙΚΟΣΤΟΣ (μέρος τὸ πρῶτον)

Several interrogative (asking) expressions. Variae formulae percunctandi. Ποικίλαι τοῦ ἐρωτᾶν ῥῆτραι.

What’s happening? What’s going on? Quid agitur? Τί πράττεται;

What happened? Tell me where the other people are. Quid factum est? Cedo, cedo alios. Τί πέπρακται; εἰπέ μοι, ὅπου εἰσὶν ἄλλοι.

How have you come to suspect that? Quid tibi ista incidit suspicio? Πῶς ταύτην τὴν ὑποψίαν ἔχεις;

How do you come to have those qualms? Unde istaec te incessit religio? Πῶς ταύτην τὴν εὐλαβείαν ἔχεις;

What was the reason why he did that? Quid habuit argumenti quamobrem hoc fecerit? Τίνα πρόφασιν ἔχων τοῦτο ἐποίησε;

What do you do for a living? Quam vitae condicionem sequeris? Τίνα τέχνην ἀσκεῖς;

Do you know this? —Why wouldn’t I? Idne scis? —Quid ego nesciam? Ἦ τοῦτο οἶσθα; —Πῶς οὔ;

Why not? Quid ita non? Quidni? Πῶς γὰρ οὔτι μήν;

Why are you shaking (trembling)? Quid est quamobrem trepidas (trepides)? Διὰ τί ὀῤῥωδεῖς;

Do you think you have got out of this trouble? Te hoc crimine elapsum putas? Οἴει ὅτι σε οὕτως ἀφήσουσι;

What are you whispering? Quid est tibi mutitio? Τί δὲ μύζεις (γρύζεις);

Why are you so happy? What does your joy mean? Quid istud gaudii est? Τί αὕτη ἡ χαρά ἐστι;

¿Are you in your right mind? Penes te es? Ἆρα φρονεῖς;

Why are you so sad, son? —I’m fine, mother. Quid es tam tristis, fili? —Recte, mater. Διὰ τί οὕτως εἶ δύσθυμος, ὦ παῖ; —Καλῶς ἔχω, μῆτερ.

Why are you crying? —What? Should I sing now? Quid fles? —Mirum! Cantem? Διὰ τί δακρύεις; —Τί δή; ᾄδω;

Might a good man tell lies, perchance? Num cadit in virum bonum mentiri? Ἆρ’ εἰς ψευδοῦς ὑποψίαν ἀγαθὸς ἀνὴρ ἔρχεται;

Do you understand? Num intelligis? Ἦ συνίης;

Do you understand what he is saying? Numne (numnam) intellegis quae dicit? Ἦ τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ συννοεῖς;

What do you worry about? Quid tibi est sollicitudinis? Quid te tenet sollicitum? Τί εἰς φροντίδα σε καθίστησι; Τί σε περιμέριμνον ἔχει;
