It would be good practice to have an Egypt thread in Greek as a way of practice but I have never been good at debating in two languages. To discuss in Greek I have to forget that I also know English. I can see why you didn't quote Jefferson in Greek given that he said it in English but for me it makes it very hard then to switch back to Greek. Hence I have posted a reply in English on the open board.

The key problem for Egypt is...the army. For such a privileged body to be outside democratic accountability is incompatible with democracy.

Hi, Paul,

I was thinking of Aristophanes' famous line in Lysistrata 29 ὁ πόλεμος ἑρπέτω, "Let the war creep, let it come in, let it take its course." The heat creeps in, advances, slowly comes upon us like a creeping reptile (ἑρπετόν.)

I fear, now, that in Egypt ἕρπει ὁ πόλεμεος.
I am writing in Ancient Greek not because I know Greek well, but because I hope that it will improve my fluency in reading. I got the idea for this from Adrianus over on the Latin forum here at Textkit.

Προ του ευριπου.... ουκ συνῆκα το ευρίπος... παραχαλω, τί σημαινει το ευρίπος;
I will babble until I talk.
