The question is simple:
When the subject accusative of an infinitive is the reflexive pronoun, does it have to be doubled (tripled etc) in embedded structures with verba dicendi et sentienti (or in general)?
E.g.
1. Tristis sum
2. Dixit [se tristem esse]
3. Illa dixit [eum dixisse [se tristem esse]]
4. Quidam arbitratur [illam dixisse [eum dixisse [se tristem esse]]]
Etc. etc.
Ok so far... But what about the next?
1. Tristis sum
2. Puto [me tristem esse]
3. Ille dixit [se putare [se tristem esse]]
or perhaps (???)
3. Ille dixit [se putare [tristem esse]]
I have tried to find some passages with a doubled (3d person) reflexive but I failed...
Thanks in advance for any reply
