Vulgate Psalm CXXXVIII verse 6

Post by bingley »

mirabilis facta est scientia tua ex me confortata est non potero ad eam

Your knowledge has been made marvellous, it has been much strengthened, I will not be able to (reach) it.

But how does the ex me fit in?

I have seen a French translation which understands EX ME as "higher than me", "out of my reach". The phrase is not natural in Latin. The Septuagint gives no further clues. The Latin of the Vulgate looks often unnatural.

The Nova Vulgata has this:

Mirabilis nimis facta est scientia tua super me,
sublimis, et non attingam eam.

What is the Nova Vulgata? Is it a new translation into Latin or a new edition which is supposed to be nearer what St. Jerome actually wrote?
