LL Help Please

Post by Puer Improbus »

Hi

I'm not sure I'm translating these fragments from Cap XXII correctly. Can you help?

Catena qua canis vincitur
Anuli quibus digiti ornantur

Here's how I translate them:

Catena [Nominative] qua [Ablative of Instrument?] canis [Nominative] vincitur [Passive]

The chain with which the dog is chained

Anuli [Nominative Plural] quibus [Ablative of Instrument?] digiti [Nominative Plural] ornantur [Passive Plural]

The rings with which fingers [or the fingers] are ornamented

Am I on the right track here? Is qua/quibus in these fragments in the Ablative of Instrument?

Thank you.

Marcus.

Marcus, you are correct on all accounts!
Horae quidem cedunt et dies et menses et anni, nec praeteritum tempus umquam revertitur nec quid sequatur sciri potest. Quod cuique temporis ad vivendum datur, eo debet esse contentus. --Cicero, De Senectute
