Occido (kill) and Occido (fall) are two different verbs?

I've just realised that the verb occido, occidere, occidi, occisum - to Kill is distinguished from
occido, occidere, occidi, - to fall. Strange... as they are clearly the same word...

Yes, except the meaning, spelling and pronounciation are different (the bold is the stress):

occīdo, occīdī, occīsum, occīdere (to kill: from ob + caedo)

and

occido, occidī, occāsum, occidere (to fall: from ob + cado)

There are several pairs of verbs like that in Latin, e.g.:

praedīco, praedīcere, praedīxī, praedictum (to predict)

and

praedico, praedicāre, praedicāvī, praedicātum (to announce)

You'll need to watch out for them.
