I've just realised that the verb occido, occidere, occidi, occisum - to Kill is distinguished from
occido, occidere, occidi, - to fall. Strange... as they are clearly the same word...
Yes, except the meaning, spelling and pronounciation are different (the bold is the stress):
dere (to kill: from ob + caedo)
dere (to fall: from ob + cado)
There are several pairs of verbs like that in Latin, e.g.:
ctum (to predict)
tum (to announce)
You'll need to watch out for them.
