I would like to see if I am close to being right with my English to Greek translation:" The god does not destroy the host of the Achaeans, for they do not dishonor the gods of (their) fatherland". [face=SPIonic] qeoj ou) luei straton )Axaiwn, ou) gar a)timazei qeouj patrhj[/face]<br />I did not include any accents because I did not spend a lot of time on accents yet, thinking that they are of secondary importance. <br />Any comments would be appreciated.<br />

Close, though I would gently suggest you use the accents, too. It'll be easier than learning it all later. <br /><br />One thing I'd have done differently is in vocabulary. Your choices are certainly correct, but I have a strong urge to use [face=SPIonic]lao/j[/face] for "host" and [face=SPIonic]o)le/kw[/face] for "destroy" in this sentence. When you get to line 10 of the Iliad you'll know why.<br /><br />Finally, you made a very, very common error for beginners: you used the wrong number for "they dishonor". You have written "s/he dishonors." You want [face=SPIonic]a)tima/zousi[/face]. I still mess this up from time to time.

The reason I chose the singular over the plural was to make it agree with straton.I figured that the nature of strato/j is plural, like "group" or "multitude", but the word is singular.<br />Thanks for the reply.

In the text books it says that the accents in verbs want to be as far towards the front of the word as the rules allow, no problem there. For nouns etc. the accents want to stay on the same syllable on which it starts.<br />Is it just a matter of memory which syllable that is?
