Translation to latin

Post by lilium Inter Spinas »

Hello all? Can anyone help me out? I want to translate, "Forgive me father for I am sin", into latin. If you could please help me, it would be appreciated. Thank you...

You'll need an ecclesiastical guy for that... Generally my mother who was Catholic until she was 10 is better at this stuff than I with a Latin degree. At least my reply will bump your comment back into play.

"Forgive me Father for I am sin" or "Forgive me Father for I have sinned"?

I would rather have sinned than be sin.

Yes, I don't know why you would be sin, unless you were doing a play on words.

For "Forgive me father for I am sin", you could simply say mihi ignosce pater nam peccum sum. For the more traditional "Forgive me father for I have sinned" I would say mihi ignosce pater nam peccavi.

There was probably a special phrase in the days when the church was all Latin, but I don't know what it was.
flebile nescio quid queritur lyra, flebile lingua murmurat exanimis, respondent flebile ripae

I don't know why Sin is Jecht either... Maybe this:

Dimitte mihi pater quoniam peccatum sum.

I will e-mail the homie P. down in Rome and ask him.
