Salvete (intro thread)

Postby mjanderson » Fri Jul 03, 2009 4:57 pm

Hello everybody,

My name is Michael Anderson, and I've been using Textkit for the past couple years. I'm finally getting around to beginning to participate more in the forums now, though, so I figured this might be a good time to introduce myself. My main interest is ancient and medieval philosophy, and I've mainly been working on Latin and Greek with that in mind. I'm trying to branch out a bit as well to more literary and classical works, especially in Latin. Is anyone else interested in study groups on more philosophically inclined thinkers in either language?

Welcome to the list. I am not personally interested in a study group on philosophy, but someone may be.

Hi. I have a bit of an interest in philosophy, and although I'd prefer Greek to Latin, I think I'd enjoy working through a philosophical work in either language.

Hello modus.irrealis,

I think that I'd prefer to work on a Greek philosophical text myself, since I need more practice there. Do you have anyone in mind in particular?

Epictetus' Discourses has been on my to-read list for a while, but really anything would work for me.

Epictetus sounds good to me; I've been meaning to get more into the Stoics.

I'll go put a post on the Learning Greek board to see if anyone else is interested, along with some links to more information. We'll wait a couple days, see if anyone bites, and go from there.
